Project overview

Reelhouse is a movie, web-series and events site for a cinema brand: new releases, what is playing in theatres, entertainment news, live events and ticket booking on one page. We took the page layouts to a production-grade front end — every section responsive, every carousel and tab working, and the whole thing light enough to load quickly on a phone over mobile data.

Client context

  - Industry: Entertainment / cinema

  - Client size / environment: Consumer-facing brand website — showcase build

  - Primary stakeholders: Marketing, box office and content editors

Challenge

An image-heavy entertainment layout with ten content sections, three carousels, tabbed catalogues and booking actions. It had to feel rich on a 1440px desktop, stay usable on a 390px phone, and avoid the heavy JavaScript bundle that usually comes with this kind of page.

Scope delivered

  - Responsive layout system — ten sections, CSS Grid and Flexbox, desktop to 390px mobile

  - Hero carousel with autoplay, arrows, dots and touch swipe; drag-to-scroll theatres rail; gallery slideshow

  - Tabbed movie and series catalogues with trailer, details and booking actions

  - Accessible modals (Escape to close, focus return), mobile navigation and reduced-motion support

  - Subscribe form with inline validation and sign-up flow

  - Image pipeline — optimized, licensed imagery with lazy loading

Before / after

  - Before: Static page layouts only — no interaction, no mobile behaviour, nothing a visitor could click.

  - After: A working site: three carousels, tabbed catalogues, trailer and booking modals, a collapsible mobile menu and form validation — about 14.5 KB of gzipped HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with zero console errors.

Mobile — 390px layout and the collapsible navigation menu
Desktop — hero carousel with side previews and the upcoming movies catalogue

Visual proof placeholders

  - 17 automated browser checks — carousel, tabs, modals, booking, form validation, mobile menu

  - No horizontal overflow at 390px; zero JavaScript errors on desktop and mobile

  - Section-by-section screenshots captured from the live build at desktop and mobile widths

Delivery timeline

  - Phase 1: Layout system, typography and card components across all ten sections

  - Phase 2: Carousels, tabs, modals, booking and subscribe interactions

  - Phase 3: Mobile pass, accessibility, image optimization and automated browser QA

Outcome

A complete, fast front end that is ready to plug into a real catalogue and ticketing backend. The same approach — rich visuals without a heavy bundle — is what we bring to brand and marketing sites for Canadian businesses.

Technology stack

HTML5, CSS Grid/Flexbox, vanilla JavaScript, WebP image pipeline, Playwright automated browser QA.

Visual evidence
